Tournament Rules

PLAYERS:  Rosters are limited to 8 players. 5 players a side: 2 or more women; no more than 3 men at a given time. A team with less than 2 women has to play short. A player can only be on one roster (flexible).

 

PLAYER GEAR: All players must wear shin guards, no exceptions. Each team must wear matching jerseys/shirts/pinnies during games.

 

FIELD: Field is 30 x 20 yard. Goals are small goals. The goal box is a 6 feet radius arc. NO goalies.

 

PENALTY BOX: There is no ball contact allowed within the goal box. If the ball comes to a stop in the goal box, a goal kick is awarded. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team, unless the defender is believed to have prevented a goal being scored, in which case a goal will be awarded.  

 

RESTART/ INDIRECT KICKS: All restart are always indirect kicks, including throw-ins. Kickoffs are taken from midfield. Corner kicks are played. In any restart, defending players need to at least three yards away from the ball. If the kick-in takes place less than three yards from the defending goal area, the ball shall be moved three yards from the goal area. On indirect kicks, a goal can only be scored if the ball touches a player before it enters the goal.

 

PENALTY KICKS: Penalty kick is the only direct kick, is taken from the midfield. All players must stand behind the midfield line until the ball is kicked.

 

FORMAT: Teams are guaranteed to play a minimum of 4 games. The first round consists of a round robin format. Playoffs are single-elimination.

 

FORFEITS: A team who fails to line up within 5 minutes of their assigned game time will forfeit by a score of 3-0. A team who fails to have 3 players will forfeit by a score of 3-0. 

 

GAME DURATION: Games are 30 minutes with a 3-minute half-time break. In the playoff rounds, if a game is tied at the end of regulation time, a 5 minute golden goal period will be played. If no team has scored at the end of the overtime, a penalty shootout will take place. Best of 3 (one shooter must be a woman) followed by single knockout.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitutions may happen on the fly, so long as they do not disrupt the play and the team gains no “extra man advantage” during the switch (referee’s discretion).

 

SCORING IN POOL PLAY: 3 points for a win; 1 for a tie; 0 for a loss. The best goal-differential for any game is a +3, the lowest is a -3, even if the final margin is wider than that. Top four point-getters advance to playoffs.

 

TIEBREAKERS: 1st Tiebreaker = head to head (if relevant); 2nd Tiebreaker = Goal differential; 3rd Tiebreaker = Best looking/Coin Flip

 

YELLOW CARD: A yellow card results in a 3-minute expulsion from the game, and the team plays a man down.

 

RED CARD: Referees have the right to eject a player from the game. The player receiving the red card must sit out the rest of the game and the team has to play one man down. The player has to sit out following game. A red card results in a penalty kick, no matter what the red card is for.

 

FAIRPLAY: Even though this is a competition, the spirit of the event should be fun and friendly. Everyone is expected to have good sportsmanship. Prizes will be awarded to the team with most fairplay votes.

Any verbal or physical abuse will not be tolerated and will result in a red card. Players or teams can be removed from the tournament for abusive conduct by players, to the tournament organizer’s discretion.

 

FAIRPLAY TEAM VOTES: At the end of each games, 3 players of each teams will be asked to give a fairplay "score", ranging from 0 to 5. Fairplay scores will be added together at the end of the round robin to determine the Fairplay team winner.

 

PRIZES: There are 4 categories for prizes

- The team who raises the most funds for the tournament.

- The team who gets the highest fairplay votes.

- The team who wins the tournament in the Recreational division

- The team who wins the tournament in the Competitive division

 

Rules are subject to change by the tournament organizers.

Official FIFA rules will be applied with the aforementioned exceptions.
